As 2021 begins to unfold, we look ahead with unprecedented hope—inspired
by a year of unprecedented challenges.
Throughout 2020, the pandemic impacted local businesses, schools, nonprofits,
and their employees and volunteers. It also put a strain on hospitals
and care facilities, including Coteau des Prairies (CDP) Health Care System
and Tekakwitha Living Center. At the same time, it inspired an even greater
sense of community and resolve in and around Sisseton…
Rural doctors and nurses became healthcare heroes—by serving others.
In the face of adversity, they continue to face each day with conviction,
courage and compassion.
Local youth groups helped organize meals-to-go, including Thanksgiving
dinners, for caregivers at Tekakwitha Living Center and other local care
Volunteers of all ages joined the effort to keep our community safer through
“We Can Do It — Mask It.” The group sewed more than
1,000 face masks—and that number continues to grow.
At a time when it might have been easier to sit back, countless people
chose to give back throughout 2020. That same spirit of generosity is
leading us into a new year filled with new opportunities to spread kindness
and celebrate how far we’ve come—united by love for our families,
compassion for our neighbors and pride in our community.
